LAKE MBURO NATIONAL PARK.

Lake Mburo National park is one of the special places with every part of it alive with variety, interest and color, containing and extensive area of wetland, one the only two such habitats to be included with in a national park in Uganda.

Gazzeted in 1982, and named after Lake Mburo, Lake Mburo National park is located in the South west of Uganda, near Mbarara town, with size of 260 sq km, being the smallest of the Uganda’s savanna national parks.

Its mosaic habitat, dry hillside, rocky outcrops, bushes, thickets, open and wooded savanna forest, largely covered by acacia, lakes and swamps are home to a diversity of flora and fauna.

The park has over 68 mammal species and over 357 bird species.
Some of the mammalia include the Impala, zebra, eland antelope, crocodiles, hippopotamuses, topi, jackals, hyenas, leopard.

Most fascinating is the rugged nature, acacia distribution of the area, with the bigger lake and other small ones, one of the parks with a lake in its midst in Uganda.

Some of the activities in the park include;
-Game viewing which is the most tourist activity in the park. This involves viewing different animals in the park like the impala, antelopes, buffalo, leopard, topi.
-Guide walks, which involves visitors to enjoy nature and admire the environment. This can be done at leisure but with an armed guide.

-Salt lick, which involves a walk to the nearby salt, which is strategically located wooden hide as an observation point, where one gets a chance to see different types of animals come to lick the salt soil without their conscience.

-Birding, where one gets a chance to see different species of birds. Beautifully colored birds are seen in the trees. This is also done by boat cruise where different water birds are seen.
-Visit to Rubanga forest is also another recipe if one chooses to. This is small nearby forest but a true one with closed canopy in places.
